The exhibition Země živitelka 2019 – “Den zdraví”

The Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic organized special event called “Den zdraví” within the exhibition Země živitelka 2019 in České Budějovice.

 

Throughout this day, children could join several activities:

1. “Pitný režim“ - Activities related to drinking regime. How much liquids do I needed per one day? Which drinks are healthy or unhealthy?

2. “Co patří do lednice?“ - Activities focused on proper foods storage. Foods that should/should not be kept in the refrigerator/freezer?

3. “Trávení“ – Activities aimed at human digestion.

4. “Víš, co jíš a neseš?“ - Activities which demonstrates overweight or even obesity. Children can try how does it feel to carry unnecessary kilograms of body fat.

 

In the end of these games and activities, children received gifts, such as coloring books, memory games and magnetic bookmarks.

 

Furthermore, the artistic duo called Vanda and Standa prepared an entertaining musical performance entitled “Přijede k nám návštěva”. All little participators including their parents were satisfied. They gained beneficial knowledge about healthy diet, importance of sport and movement, proper hygiene and handling with foodstuff. Last, but not least, the rest of the visitors appreciated educational materials and publications.

 

Information (promo) tent of Food Safety Information Center of the Ministry of Agriculture was opened during the whole day. Information materials and publications related to nutrition, health and food safety were available for all visitors.

The publication issued in 2018 provides a brief overview of zoonoses - diseases that are naturally transmissible, directly or indirectly, betwen animals and humans, for example via contaminated foodstuffs.

  

The publication is focused on infections, the source of which is mostly food. There are elaborated chapters on salmonellosis, campylobacteriosis, tuberculosis, brucellosis, trichinosis, parasitosis, leptospirosis, listeriosis, spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease) and other diseases.

  

The individual chapters present a brief characteristics of the disease agents and incidence of certain animal and human diseases.

  

Furthermore there is information on the current disease situation, the disease risks and the prevention of infections.

  

The aim of the publication is to inform the general public about the issue of zoonoses, to ensure food safety and also to familiarize the general public with the activities of the relevant supervisory authorities.

Activities of the Food Safety Information Center in 2017

The Food Safety Information Center (ICBP) also provided communication with a broad public in 2017. The main ICBP information channel – website www.bezpecnostpotravin.cz  - has offered interesting articles in the field of food safety and healthy diet, the supervisory authorities reports, Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, invitations to fun educational events and other information. The site's viewing has risen again - comparing with 2016, the number of website visitors by www.bezpecnostpotravin.cz  has increased from 1,519,849 to 2,017,835.

On the websites www.viscojis.cz  and www.viscojis.cz/teens  and www.foodsafety.cz  data updates were guaranteed in 2017.

Activities ICBP in 2017

• 10 lectures were held with about 402 consumers taking part. In the framework of education of children and young people there were 160 educational programs in which 5, 161 elementary and nursery pupils were acquainted with the issues of proper nutrition and safe food handling.

• 3 fun educational events for children were held: at the International Day of Children at Střelecký Island in Prague, at the exhibition of Země živitelka in České Budějovice and at the National Museum of Agriculture in Prague. These events were attended by nearly 2,000 children.

• Since November 2017 on the website www.bezpecnostpotravin.cz was available the application "Do you eat?". A new part of the application entitled "Nutrition in a Nutshell" is available also which, besides clear and practical information from the world of nutrition offers the calculation of the body weight index and energy intake and nutrient.

• The e-learning course was updated and supplemented with additional modules for pedagogues and students of secondary schools with food focus and for pedagogues and students of grammar schools. Its second year was launched in October 2017 and a total of 33 schools were registered.

• There were published and gradually distributed about 81 000 materials with subjects of food safety and healthy diet.

 

Educational programme in interactive whiteboards "Jíme zdravě a s chutí"

Food Safety Information Centre has created a new training programme for primary school pupils.  

Food Safety Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture has created a new tutorial to interactive whiteboards "Jíme zdravě a s chutí" which is aimed at primary school pupils and teachers. The programme is divided into several separate modules so as to be the most usable in practice for the teachers´ actual needs. Interactive exercises in the particular modules are complemented by the activity workbook for primary school children "Jíme zdravě a s chutí”.
   

The tutorial is partly based on recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) "Five Keys to Safe Food." It covers topics of healthy nutrition and hygiene in food handling and it introduces the agricultural issue in a playful way. The tutorial also includes a short instructional videos, interactive competitions, games and fun testing of the gained knowledge.
   

Each teacher has the opportunity to choose either an entire program or just individual modules to his teaching: Movement, Digestive System, Teeth, Water intake, Nutrition, Healthy lunch, Healthy plate, Food origin - animals (Poultry, Rabbits, Cows, Sheep, Pigs, Processing milk), Food origin - plants (Plants, Fruit and Vegetables), Bacteria, Fungi, Food handling, What have you learned, Play, Fruit and Vegetables - practicing.

The viewing website www.bezpecnostpotravin.cz is increasing

The Ministry of Agriculture‘s Food Safety Information Center (FSIC) has been running the www.bezpecnostpotravin.cz website since 2003, which is intended for the education of a wide range of consumers as well as a professionals in the field of food safety.
 
The main task of the website is to inform and educate consumers about food safety and healthy nutrition issues, to transmit information from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), from the Czech Supervisory Authorities and from the RASFF system to the public. Registered users of the so-called “e-mail list”service receive up-to-date information on identification of unsafe food on the Czech market.

Due to the increasing activities of the Ministry of Agriculture in the area of ensuring quality and safe food for the period 2014-2017 the public consumers have increased their interest in and demand of high-quality and safe food as well as a significant increase in viewing the bezpecnostpotravin.cz website.
  
The bezpecnostpotravin.cz website helps to meet the objectives of the National Health Strategy 2020 (Action Plan 2 Good Nutrition and Eating habits) and Food Safety and Nutrition Strategy 2014-2020, regarding its educational activities.

The average monthly traffic on the website bezpecnostpotravin.cz increased from approximately 52,000 website visitors to 177,000 website visitors per month covering the period from 2014 until 2017, which is an increase of approximately 125,000 website visitors per month, ie. an increase of 240 %.
